The three largest ancestries in Mount Eliza in 2016 were English, Australian and Irish.

Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Mount Eliza regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Mount Eliza in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • English (8,470 people or 47.3%)
  • Australian (6,128 people or 34.2%)
  • Irish (2,365 people or 13.2%)
  • Scottish (2,150 people or 12.0%)
  • German (700 people or 3.9%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 19,813 responses in total, or 110.72% of all responses.
