Dominant groups
Analysis of the unpaid child care provided by the male population in the City of Monash in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a lower proportion of males who provided unpaid child care either to their own or to other children. Overall, 21.6% of the male population provided unpaid child care, compared with 23.5% for Greater Melbourne.
The major differences between the share of the male population providing unpaid child care in the City of Monash and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage who did not provide care for children (73.1% compared to 70.9%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for own child/ren (18.1% compared to 19.7%)
Emerging groups
The number of males who provided unpaid child care for their own and/or other people's children in City of Monash increased by 715 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the number of males performing unpaid child care in the City of Monash, between 2016 and 2021 were those who:
- No unpaid child care provided (+4,157 males)
- Cared for own child/ren (+1,440 males)
- Cared for other child/ren (-655 males)
