Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of Oakleigh East - Huntingdale in 2016 compared to City of Monash shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 43.4% of the population spoke English only, and 51.3% spoke a non-English language, compared with 45.4% and 50.1% respectively for City of Monash.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Oakleigh East - Huntingdale was Mandarin, with 11.0% of the population, or 898 people speaking this language at home.
