Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Monash in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Retail Trade (8,810 people or 11.3%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (8,794 people or 11.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (8,174 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 25,778 people in total or 32.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 10.6% in Retail Trade; 11.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 8.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Monash and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.4% compared to 8.9%)
