Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Monash in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6,237 males or 12.8%)
  • Construction (5,045 males or 10.4%)
  • Retail Trade (4,559 males or 9.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 15,841 males in total or 32.6% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 10.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 15.2% in Construction; and 8.1% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Monash and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (12.8% compared to 10.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in education and training (6.3% compared to 4.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (10.4% compared to 15.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.7% compared to 7.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in City of Monash increased by 5,905 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Monash were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+1,107 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+921 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+865 males)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+600 males)
