In Hills Region, 37% of households were made up of couples with children in 2016, compared with 34% in the City of Mitcham.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Hills Region in 2016 compared to the City of Mitcham shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 36.6% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 8.0% were one-parent families, compared with 34.0% and 8.7% respectively for the City of Mitcham.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 19.9% compared to 23.2% in the City of Mitcham while the proportion of couples without children was 30.7% compared to 26.6% in the City of Mitcham.
