Location and boundaries

Netherby is bounded by Cross Road and Fullarton Road in the north, Claremont Avenue and Waite Road in the east, Delamere Avenue, Fullarton Road, Hill Street, Birdwood Street, Haig Street and Truro Avenue in the south, and Smith Dorrien Street, Unley High School and Urrbrae Agricultural High School in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for farming and grazing. Growth was minimal until the early 1900s, with rapid development in the 1920s. Growth continued in the 1950s, and then again in the 1970s and 1980s. The population continued to increase from the early 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area and an increase in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
