Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Southern Rural in 2021 compared to MidCoast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 21.2% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.3% were one-parent families, compared with 17.5% and 10.5% respectively for MidCoast Council area.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a similar proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 24.3% compared to 28.7% in MidCoast Council area while the proportion of couples without children was 32.7% compared to 32.9% in MidCoast Council area.

The number of households in Southern Rural increased by 342 between 2016 and 2021.
