Dominant groups

Analysis of the non-English speaking population in the City of Melton in 2011 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.0% of the non-English speaking population was aged between 0 and 14, and 6.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 15.1% and 13.7% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The major differences between the age groups of the non-English speaking population in the City of Melton and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of people aged 35 to 39 (11.0% compared to 7.9%)
  • A larger percentage of people aged 30 to 34 (11.0% compared to 8.9%)
