In 2011, there were more recent overseas arrivals who worked as professionals in the City of Melton than any other occupation.

An analysis of the jobs held by recent overseas arrivals in City of Melton in 2011 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (544 persons or 21.0%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (384 persons or 14.8%)
- Labourers (357 persons or 13.8%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,285 people in total or 49.7% of the employed recent overseas arrivals.
In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 24.5% in Professionals; 10.6% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 13.7% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the recent overseas arriving population of the City of Melton and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (14.8% compared to 10.6%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (10.4% compared to 6.8%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Professionals (21.0% compared to 24.5%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (10.1% compared to 11.3%)
