Analysis of the language spoken at home by recent overseas arrivals in the City of Melton in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 12.4% of recent overseas arrivals spoke English only, and 86.0% spoke a non-English language, compared with 16.5% and 82.3% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The dominant language spoken at home by recent overseas arrivals, other than English, in the City of Melton was Punjabi, with 20.1% of the population, or 2,036 people speaking this language at home.
