City of Maroondah

Overseas born - Housing tenure

In the City of Maroondah 71.3% of overseas born people were in households who were purchasing or fully owned their home, 23.5% were renting privately, and 2.4% were in social housing in 2011.

The City of Maroondah's Housing Tenure data provides insights into its socio-economic status as well as the role it plays in the housing market. For overseas-born, housing tenure shows how migrants are accommodated in the area. This is highly correlated with the age of migrant communities - older communities are likely to have more home ownership. In some areas, public housing is an important tenure type for migrants, even long established communities.

To build a more complete picture of the story of the area for the overseas-born population, Housing Tenure data should be viewed in conjunction with Dwelling Type, Household Income and Age Structure data.

Derived from the Census questions:

'Is this dwelling (owned outright, owned with a mortgage etc.)', and 'If this dwelling is being rented, who is it rented from?'
