City of Maroondah

Low income households - Internet connection

In 2011, 45.1% of people in low income households in the City of Maroondah had access to a broadband internet connection.

A fast Internet Connection is increasingly required for accessing essential information and undertaking domestic and non-domestic business. Households with dial-up or no internet service are being left behind in the digital divide as both government and the private sector are increasingly conducting their business, or aspects of it, on-line.

Typically across Australia, internet access is correlated with both age and incomes. Low income households are less likely to have internet access than high income households in general, but this may vary depending on the role and function of each area in housing those on low incomes. For instance areas where the main low income households are student populations may have quite high levels of internet access.

Internet connectivity in the City of Maroondah can be affected by availability of connection, Education Attending and Age Structure, as well as incomes.

Derived from the Census question:

'Does any member of this household access the internet from this dwelling'
