Analysis of the language spoken at home by recent overseas arrivals in the City of Maroondah in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 12.9% of recent overseas arrivals spoke English only, and 85.3% spoke a non-English language, compared with 16.5% and 82.3% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The dominant language spoken at home by recent overseas arrivals, other than English, in the City of Maroondah was Mandarin, with 22.9% of the population, or 1,020 people speaking this language at home.
