Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Maroondah in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Maroondah shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 71.2% of children aged 0 to 4 years spoke English only, and 25.6% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 76.9% and 19.8% respectively for the total population in the City of Maroondah.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Maroondah was Mandarin, with 6.7% of the population, or 458 people speaking this language at home.
