In Koonung Ward, 53% of people spoke a language other than English at home in 2016.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of Koonung Ward in 2016 compared to City of Manningham shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 42.6% of the population spoke English only, and 53.3% spoke a non-English language, compared with 53.6% and 42.5% respectively for City of Manningham.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Koonung Ward was Mandarin, with 16.1% of the population, or 6,446 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for the population of Koonung Ward and City of Manningham in 2016 were:
