Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s when a village was established on the Yarra River, being one of the oldest areas of settlement in the City of Manningham. The village remained a relatively small settlement well into the 1900s, with the area outside of the township remaining as orchards. Substantial development took place during the 1970s and 1980s, with subdivisions largely at lower densities. This area is characterised by large dwellings. The population increased from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
