Dominant groups

Analysis of the service age groups of Division 12 in 2021 compared to Springwood shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 22.4% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 25.1% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 21.3% and 25.9% respectively for Springwood.

The major differences between the age structure of Division 12 and Springwood were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Tertiary education & independence' (8.5% compared to 7.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Parents and homebuilders' (18.4% compared to 20.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Frail aged' (2.0% compared to 2.8%)

Emerging groups

From 2001 to 2021, Division 12's population increased by 6,293 people (29.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.29% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • Seniors (70 to 84) (+2,088 people)
  • Empty nesters and retirees (60 to 69) (+1,441 people)
  • Older workers and pre-retirees (50 to 59) (+872 people)
  • Young workforce (25 to 34) (+863 people)
