Analysis of household income levels in Ferntree Gully in 2011 compared to the City of Knox shows that there was a smaller proportion of high income households (those earning $2,500 per week or more) and a higher proportion of low income households (those earning less than $650 per week).
Overall, 13.1% of the households earned a high income and 26.9% were low income households, compared with 15.8% and 24.0% respectively for the City of Knox.
The major differences between the household incomes of Ferntree Gully and the City of Knox were:
