Dominant groups

Analysis of the car ownership of the households with recent arrivals in the City of Knox in 2011 compared to Greater Sydney shows that 96.4% of recent arrivals were in households who owned at least one car, while 2.6% did not, compared with 80.0% and 16.9% respectively in Greater Melbourne.

Of those that owned at least one vehicle, there was a smaller proportion who owned just one car; a larger proportion who owned two cars; and a larger proportion who owned three cars or more.

Overall, 33.6% of recent arrivals were in households who owned one car; 48.2% owned two cars; and 14.5% owned three cars or more, compared with 39.2%; 30.3% and 10.5% respectively for Greater Melbourne.
