Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Knox in 2021 compared to the total population in the City of Knox shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 65.2% of children aged 0 to 4 years spoke English only, and 31.2% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 68.0% and 28.7% respectively for the total population in the City of Knox.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by children aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Knox was Mandarin, with 11.3% of the population, or 957 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for children aged 0 to 4 years of the City of Knox and the total population in the City of Knox in 2021 were:
