Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Knox in 2011 compared to Victoria shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 79.8% of people aged 0 to 4 years spoke English only, and 16.7% spoke a non-English language, compared with 74.8% and 19.0% respectively for Victoria.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 0 to 4 years in the City of Knox was Mandarin, with 2.8% of the population, or 254 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 0 to 4 years of the City of Knox and Victoria in 2011 were:
