On the other hand, some area's non-English speaking populations are older and more established, with some of those areas targeted as aspirational upgrader areas. Dominant groups

Analysis of household income levels for non-English speakers households in the Inner West Council in 2021 compared to the total households in Inner West Council area shows that there was a smaller proportion of non-English speakers in high income households (those earning $3,000 per week or more) and a higher proportion of low income households (those earning less than $800 per week).

Overall, 34.5% of non-English speakers were in households who earned a high income, and 14.8% were in low income households, compared with 48.9% and 9.4% respectively for the total households in Inner West Council area.

The major differences between the incomes levels for non-English speakers in households in Inner West Council area and the total population in the Inner West Council were:

  • A smaller percentage of people in households who earned $6,000 - $7,999 (5.4% compared to 9.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of people in households who earned $4,500 - $4,999 (5.7% compared to 9.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people in households who earned $5,000 - $5,999 (5.1% compared to 8.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people in households who earned $8,000 or more (2.1% compared to 4.1%)
