Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Hume City in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (10,396 females or 22.4%)
  • Education and Training (5,953 females or 12.8%)
  • Retail Trade (5,476 females or 11.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 21,825 females in total or 47.1% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 21.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.0% in Education and Training; and 10.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Hume City and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in transport, postal and warehousing (4.7% compared to 2.4%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (11.8% compared to 10.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.1% compared to 8.8%)
