Dominant groups
Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of Merrylands in 2011 compared to Holroyd City shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 32.7% of the population spoke English only, and 60.0% spoke a non-English language, compared with 43.2% and 51.0% respectively for Holroyd City.
The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Merrylands was Arabic, with 19.6% of the population, or 3,792 people speaking this language at home.
