In Newport East, 14% of people spoke a language other than English at home in 2016.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of Newport East in 2016 compared to Hobsons Bay City shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 83.5% of the population spoke English only, and 13.7% spoke a non-English language, compared with 65.6% and 29.0% respectively for Hobsons Bay City.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Newport East was Greek, with 3.0% of the population, or 129 people speaking this language at home.
