About the profile areas

Location and boundaries

Mountains North is bounded by Cessnock City and Wyong Shire in the north, the suburbs of Niagara Park, Narara and West Gosford in the east, the suburbs and localities of Kariong, Mooney Mooney Creek, Calga, Glenworth Valley, Greengrove, Lower Mangrove and Gunderman in the south and Hawkesbury City in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the Mangrove Creek area dates from the early 1830s. The relative inaccessibility of some Plateau areas led to a slower rate of settlement than that experienced in many coastal communities. In the 1900s, timber getting, passionfruit growing and citrus orchards became economic mainstays of the Plateau. Improved roads in the area led to agricultural, tourism and infrastructure support growth in the 1950s and 1960s. Large numbers of poultry farms were established in the Kulnura area in the post WW2 era. The population generally increased slightly from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.
