Dominant groups
Analysis of the unpaid child care provided by the male population in the City of Greater Geelong in 2021 compared to Rural North shows that there was a lower proportion of males who provided unpaid child care either to their own or to other children. Overall, 24.0% of the male population provided unpaid child care, compared with 24.6% for Rural North.
The major differences between the share of the male population providing unpaid child care in the City of Greater Geelong and Rural North were:
- A larger percentage who did not provide care for children (69.5% compared to 65.5%)
- A smaller percentage who provided unpaid childcare for other child/ren (4.6% compared to 6.1%)
Emerging groups
The number of males who provided unpaid child care for their own and/or other people's children in City of Greater Geelong increased by 2,886 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the number of males performing unpaid child care in the City of Greater Geelong, between 2016 and 2021 were those who:
- No unpaid child care provided (+14,021 males)
- Cared for own child/ren (+3,246 males)
- Cared for other child/ren (-296 males)
