Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Greater Geelong in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (12,939 males or 19.8%)
  • Retail Trade (5,836 males or 8.9%)
  • Manufacturing (5,767 males or 8.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 24,542 males in total or 37.6% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Corio employed 18.8% in Construction; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 15.9% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Greater Geelong and Corio were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.4% compared to 2.0%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (7.1% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (8.8% compared to 15.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (6.4% compared to 10.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in City of Greater Geelong increased by 12,292 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Greater Geelong were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+3,759 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,608 males)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,059 males)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+897 males)
