Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Greater Geelong in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (17,877 females or 27.8%)
  • Education and Training (8,883 females or 13.8%)
  • Retail Trade (7,891 females or 12.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 34,651 females in total or 53.9% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 21.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.0% in Education and Training; and 10.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Greater Geelong and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (27.8% compared to 21.7%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (12.3% compared to 10.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.6% compared to 8.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in financial and insurance services (3.3% compared to 4.6%)

The number of employed females in City of Greater Geelong increased by 13,753 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Greater Geelong were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+5,069 females)
  • Education and Training (+1,975 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,098 females)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+922 females)
