Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of females in the City of Greater Geelong compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a higher proportion of females who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 6.9% of the female population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.1% for Greater Melbourne.

The major differences in the female age groups reporting a need for assistance in the City of Greater Geelong and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A smaller percentage of females aged 80 to 84 (29.0% compared to 36.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 75 to 79 (17.0% compared to 21.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 85 and over (54.2% compared to 58.1%)
