The size of Karingal's labour force in 2016 was 6,046, of which 2,061 were employed part-time and 3,373 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Karingal in 2016 compared to Frankston City shows that there was a lower proportion in employment, and a higher proportion unemployed. Overall, 91.7% of the labour force was employed (50.3% of the population aged 15+), and 8.3% unemployed (4.5% of the population aged 15+), compared with 93.6% and 6.4% respectively for Frankston City.
