Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils compared to Cairns (R) shows that there was a similar proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 5.6% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.4% for Cairns (R).
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Mareeba (S) and Cairns (R) were:
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (25.7% compared to 30.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (9.5% compared to 12.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (15.1% compared to 17.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.6% compared to 8.2%)
