Stuart Park is named after the army park or camp area which was located in the area.

Settlement history

Development of the area originated during the early 1900s, but was primarily during the 1950s. In 1911 Stuart Park was a camp for refugees from the attempted clearance of Chinatown. During World War II the Army had a park or camp in the area. The population increased substantially from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area.
