Rapid Creek is bounded by the Timor Sea foreshore in the north, Rapid Creek in the east, Trower Road in the south and Nightcliff Road in the west.

Name origin

Rapid Creek is named after the stream which flows through the area.

Settlement history

Rapid Creek was originally established in the late 1800s when it was settled by the Jesuit Mission, although this was abandoned before the turn of the century. Development of the area was primarily during the 1960s, following the development of the suburb of Nightcliff. The population fluctuated slightly during the 1990s, was stable between 2001 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011, largely due to an increase in dwelling occupancy rates.
