Name origin

Millner is named after Dr James Stokes Millner, who was the Medical Officer and Protector of Aborigines after the Darwin township was established in 1869.

Settlement history

Development of the area was primarily from the 1960s. The population fluctuated slightly during the 1990s, and then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2011, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
