Coconut Grove is bounded by the suburb of Nightcliff, Dick Ward Drive and Progress Drive in the north, Bagot Road in the east, Totem Road and a line running continuous of Totem Road in the south and the Timor Sea foreshore in the west.

Name origin

Coconut Grove is named for the grove of coconuts on the coastal fringe of the area.

Settlement history

Development of the area dates back to the pre-war years when it was mainly used for farming, but primarily from the 1960s. The population has increased since the early 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.

Coconut Grove is an established residential suburb.
