Location and boundaries
Berrimah - Coonawarra - Winnellie is bounded by the Stuart Highway, Darwin International Airport, the schools and McMillans Road in the north, Vanderlin Drive, Stuart Highway, Pruen Road and Makagon Road in the east, Marlow Road, the southern boundary of the Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex and Tiger Brennan Drive in the south and Benison Road and Reichardt Road in the west.
Berrimah is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "to the south". Coonawarra is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "swan". Winnellie is thought to be named after the wives of two of the officers who built the Army camp in the area.

Development of the area dates from 1941, when Army Camps and an Army Hospital were established. Some growth took place from the mid 1940s to the mid 1950s. The area experienced population growth during the 1990s, due to new residential development, mainly in Winnellie, although some of this is in atypical accommodation types (eg. The Shady Glen and Leprechaun Caravan Parks). The population and dwelling stock declined slightly between 2001 and 2006. The population was relatively stable between 2006 and 2011.
Berrimah - Coonawarra - Winnellie is a military and industrial area, with some newer residential areas, particularly in the suburb of Winnellie. The suburb of Coonawarra is almost entirely a naval base.
Major features of the area include Kormilda College, CSIRO Darwin Laboratory, Berrimah Power Station, Flight Path Golf & Outdoor Recreation, Darwin Showgrounds and Exhibition Centre, Australian Aviation Heritage Centre, Winnellie Park Greyhound Track, part of Charles Darwin National Park, Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex and Defence Establishment Berrimah.
This small area includes the localities of Coonawarra and Winnellie, and the City of Darwin parts of the localities of Berrimah, Charles Darwin and Hidden Valley.
