Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Western Sydney (LGA) in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (116,611 females or 22.5%)
  • Education and Training (66,422 females or 12.8%)
  • Retail Trade (56,128 females or 10.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 239,161 females in total or 46.1% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 21.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.6% in Education and Training; and 9.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Western Sydney (LGA) and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (22.5% compared to 21.0%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (10.8% compared to 9.7%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in manufacturing (4.8% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.9% compared to 10.1%)
