Analysis of the household/family types in Canberra Region in 2021 compared to Bega Valley Shire shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 24.9% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.1% were one-parent families, compared with 19.4% and 8.7% respectively for Bega Valley Shire.
There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 26.0% compared to 28.5% in Bega Valley Shire while the proportion of couples without children was 29.7% compared to 32.9% in Bega Valley Shire.

The number of households in Canberra Region increased by 11,654 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in family/household types in Canberra Region between 2016 and 2021 were:
