Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural South in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (422 people or 26.5%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (192 people or 12.0%)
  • Manufacturing (143 people or 9.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 757 people in total or 47.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Colac Otway Shire employed 11.4% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 13.3% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 14.2% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural South and Colac Otway Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (26.5% compared to 11.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (9.0% compared to 14.2%)
