Colac - West is bounded by Lake Colac in the north, Armstrong Street in the east, Pound Road, Cants Road and the railway line in the south, and Deans Creek Road in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1840s, following settlement in the central part of Colac. Growth was slow until the 1870s, spurred by the opening of the Princes Highway and the railway line, and the subdivision of large estates. The most significant population growth occurred in the post-war years, particularly between 1947 and 1961. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, and then was relatively stable between 2001 and 2011.

Colac - West is a predominantly residential area, with rural land use in the south-western section.
