Dominant groups

Analysis of recent overseas arrivals of Central Coast NSW in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.1% of recent overseas arrivals were aged between 0 and 14, and 6.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 13.3% and 3.7% respectively for Greater Sydney.

The major differences between the recent overseas arriving population age structure of Central Coast Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of people aged 5-9 years (9.2% compared to 6.5%)
  • A larger percentage of people aged 10-14 years (6.1% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of people aged 20-24 years (7.4% compared to 14.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of people aged 25-29 years (15.4% compared to 20.6%)
