Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by the population of Cranbourne North in 2016 compared to the City of Casey shows that there was a similar proportion of people who spoke English only, as well as a similar proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 59.1% of the population spoke English only, and 35.4% spoke a non-English language, compared with 59.2% and 35.8% respectively for the City of Casey.

The dominant language spoken at home, other than English, in Cranbourne North was Sinhalese, with 4.4% of the population, or 870 people speaking this language at home.

The major difference between the languages spoken at home for the population of Cranbourne North and the City of Casey in 2016 was:

  • A larger percentage speaking Sinhalese at home (4.4% compared to 3.0%)

Emerging groups
