Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Bankstown CBD in 2021 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • Vietnamese (2,994 people or 14.4%)
  • Chinese (2,457 people or 11.8%)
  • Lebanese (1,898 people or 9.1%)
  • Australian (1,789 people or 8.6%)
  • English (1,308 people or 6.3%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 10,446 responses in total, or 50.12% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Bankstown CBD and Bass Hill Ward were:

  • A larger percentage of people with Bengali/Bangladeshi ancestry (5.7% compared to 0.4%)
