Location and boundaries

Rural Residential includes two sections; a small section in the north-west of the City, and a large section encompassing much of the south-eastern and eastern parts of the City. The small section of Rural Residential is bounded by Liverpool City, Denham Court Road and Campbelltown Road in the north, Zouch Road and the Hume Highway in the east, the suburbs of Raby and Kearns in the south, and the Camden Council area in the west. The large section of Rural Residential is bounded by the Hume Highway, the suburbs of Glen Alpine, Rosemeadow and St Helens Park, the Georges River, the suburbs of Airds, Ruse, Leumeah, Minto and Ingleburn and Liverpool City in the north, Williams Creek, Sutherland Shire, the Woronora River and Wollongong City in the east, Wollondilly Shire in the south, and the Nepean River, the Camden Council area and Narellan Road in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the early 1800s, with land used mainly for farming. Some growth took place in the late 1800s as land was subdivided. The most significant development took place from the post-war years, particularly from the 1970s. The population has fluctuated slightly since the early 1990s, a result of small changes in dwelling stock and the average number of persons living in each dwelling.

Major features of the area include Macarthur Grange Country Club, Menangle Park Paceway, part of the Holsworthy Military Reserve, part of Lake Woronora (Woronora Dam), part of Dharawal National Park, part of Mount Annan Botanic Garden, Mount Carmel Retreat Centre, Boronia Reserve, Freres Crossing, Keith Longhurst Reserve, Kentlyn Oval, Kooringa Reserve, Noorumba Reserve, Varroville Reserve, the Nepean River and a number of schools.

Included areas

Rural Residential includes the localities of Denham Court (part), Gilead, Holsworthy (part), Kentlyn, Menangle Park, Minto Heights, Mount Annan (part), Varroville, Wedderburn and Woronora Dam (part). Parts of the localities of Denham Court and Woronora Dam are located in Liverpool City, part of the locality of Mount Annan is located in the Camden Council area, and parts of the locality of Holsworthy are located in Liverpool City and Sutherland Shire.
