The size of the City of Burnside's labour force in 2016 was 21,403, of which 8,391 were employed part-time and 11,527 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in the City of Burnside in 2016 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 94.1% of the labour force was employed (55.3% of the population aged 15+), and 5.9% unemployed (3.5% of the population aged 15+), compared with 92.3% and 7.7% respectively for Greater Adelaide.
