Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by recent overseas arrivals in the City of Burnside in 2021 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 16.1% of recent overseas arrivals spoke English only, and 83.3% spoke a non-English language, compared with 15.1% and 83.8% respectively for Greater Adelaide.

The dominant language spoken at home by recent overseas arrivals, other than English, in the City of Burnside was Mandarin, with 28.1% of the population, or 862 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for the recent overseas arriving population of the City of Burnside and Greater Adelaide in 2021 were:
