Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Broken Hill City in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,136 people or 16.2%)
  • Retail Trade (925 people or 13.2%)
  • Mining (725 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 2,786 people in total or 39.8% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 13.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.4% in Retail Trade; and 2.5% in Mining.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Broken Hill City and Regional NSW were:
