Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Brisbane LGA in 2011 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • English (350,479 people or 33.6%)
  • Australian (323,918 people or 31.1%)
  • Irish (133,802 people or 12.8%)
  • Scottish (103,660 people or 9.9%)
  • Chinese (57,019 people or 5.5%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 968,878 responses in total, or 93.00% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Brisbane LGA and Greater Brisbane were:
