Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Brisbane LGA in 2006 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • Australian (345,944 people or 36.2%)
  • English (310,780 people or 32.5%)
  • Irish (117,416 people or 12.3%)
  • Scottish (88,816 people or 9.3%)
  • German (50,219 people or 5.3%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 913,175 responses in total, or 95.52% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Brisbane LGA and Greater Brisbane were:
